This assignment is to familiarize you with the textbook and the type of homework you may be assigned based on the textbook. The textbooks for this year are CK-12 Earth Science for Middle School and CK-12 Life Science for Middle School. The assigned chapters will be available on the class website. Our first quarter will begin with Earth Science.
1. Please open and save "MS_What_is_Earth_Science_pdf" under Assigned Reading on this webpage.
2. It is important that you know how to save a copy of the chapter onto the hard drive of your computer. If the internet connection at school is interrupted, you are expected to have a copy of the assigned reading on your hard drive.
3. Read pages 1-18 of "What is Earth Science."
4. On the top of your notebook page write "The Nature of Science" and the date that you complete this assignment.

This assignment is to familiarize you with the concepts behind One World Essays and the processes of researching your assigned topic. A typical One World Essay writing cycle would be discussion about the topic, researching the topic, filling out the One World Essay Outline, writing the One World Essay, peer-reviewing the essay, revising the One World Essay, creating a presentation about the assigned topic and essay, turning in the essay and presenting the topic to the class. For this assignment, you will be researching a topic and filling out the One World Essay Outline.
